Why every girl should sing: finding belonging through choir
Welcome to the Australian International Girls Choir (AIGC), where every girl can find her voice.
As we look ahead to an exciting 2025, we invite you to learn more about how our choir not only celebrates musical talent but also fosters lasting friendships and a profound sense of belonging. In a time when social connection is more important than ever, the AIGC provides a safe environment where girls come together to express themselves and create beautiful music. Fostering meaningful connections
As children navigate the challenges of growing up and discovering their identities, the Australian International Girls Choir serves as a special space where choristers can unite each week around a shared passion: singing. In 2024, children are spending more time on screens than ever before with research indicating that this can adversely affect children’s social and psychological wellbeing. At the AIGC, we encourage girls to engage wholeheartedly with their venue staff and fellow choristers which often leads to the formation of meaningful friendships as girls explore music and movement together. The bonds created here commonly extend beyond choir practice, allowing the girls to learn valuable life skills such as empathy, communication, and respect for one another.
“Our daughters attend AGC for the beautiful community, the outstanding quality of their tuition and the exciting performance opportunities. It’s our daughters’ favourite time of the week and they have made wonderful friends in their classes.” – AGC parent
A place for all
The founding philosophy of the Australian International Girls Choir is that every child can learn to sing given the correct training and encouragement. We support choristers with additional needs, meeting families where they are at to ensure that choristers are approached with understanding and provided with practical solutions if required.
Our dedicated Music and Production team collaborates with parents and tutors to create an inclusive environment where every chorister feels valued and enjoys their experience. This support is available from the start of each choristers’ AIGC journey and ranges from assistance during weekly classes, through to concert days, ensuring all girls feel comfortable, confident, and successful. We believe in making music education accessible to girls who love to sing!
“We want families to know that communication is open; we’re here to support your child so they can have the best possible experience.” — Ainsley Summerton, AGC Student Participation Administrator
A non-competitive environment
At the Australian International Girls Choir, we strive to foster a non-competitive environment that encourages each of our choristers to grow into the best versions of themselves. Our nurturing space allows girls to explore their creativity, experiment with their vocal abilities, and build confidence as they discover their unique voices. Here, each chorister is recognised not just for individual achievements but also for their contributions to the ensemble’s success.
During their time in the choir, from rehearsal all the way through to performances, girls learn the value of collaboration and teamwork. They discover that their voices when combined, create something far more beautiful than any person could achieve alone. As they work towards common goals—such as one of our AIGC concerts – they cultivate essential teamwork skills while enhancing their singing, dance and performance abilities. The AIGC is not just about singing; it’s about building a community where girls feel valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
“Our daughter loves the opportunity to sing and dance in a supportive environment with kind and caring teachers.” – Paul Considine, AGC parent
Joining the Australian International Girls Choir is more than just an opportunity to sing; it’s an invitation to become part of a vibrant community that empowers girls to find their unique voice and create beautiful harmonies together. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity and well-being, we are dedicated to ensuring that every chorister feels valued and empowered.
